From Jonathan

Here is the Scouting 101 information for the next two months.
Jonathan needs Several things from everyone.

All Scouts: Please bring or wear your neckerchiefs for bandaging material each week. Also, look around your house and see if you have any spare blankets and large pieces of cardboard. These will be used to practice splinting. Make sure your parents are ok with you bringing this stuff with you.

Parents: If you have some extra bed sheets that you don’t care about, please cut them up for him and bring them to the July 8 meeting. Jonathan needs the following for practice bandages:

  • Neckerchief sized pieces (just use your scouts neckerchief as a pattern, they don’t have to be perfect, and a little bigger then the neckerchief is even better.
  • Strips of fabric for roller bandages that are 4 inches wide and 6 or 7 feet long.

July Troop Meetings (First Aid Theme for the new scouts):

July 8 – ABC’s, Stretchers, Splints, and Bandaging

July 15 – Carries, stretchers, splints and bandaging (again)

July 22 - Choking, bleeding, and Shock

Outings:
July 25 – 27 – First Aid/Disaster Weekend – This will be at Donner Memorial State Park (I-80 to Donner Pass Area). We will of course be working on cooking, fire-building, knots, lashing, rope making, and woods tools as time allows. However, the primary focus of this weekend will be First Aid. We will have several First Aid scenarios, covering Tenderfoot to First Class Skills. It will be the culmination of all of the training we will have just completed at the troop meetings. Cost for the campsite is $7.50 per person. You should plan on a total cost of about $20.00 per person with food and gas. Limited to 32 participants. Deadline to sign up is the July 22 meeting.

August 15 -17 – Camp out to Union Valley Reservoir (Highway 50/Ice House Reservoir area, about 20 miles West of Lake Tahoe). We will continue to practice skills such as cooking, fire-building, knots, lashing, Hiking, etc. We will try to cover skills from Tenderfoot to First Class that we have not covered yet. Stay tuned for more about this trip. Cost is $7.50 for the campsite. You should plan on the total being about $20.00 per person with food and gas. Limited to 31 participants.
