By just heading up to camp, we keep missing out on Tenderfoot 1 – Present yourself to your leader, before going on a overnight trip. Show the gear you will use. Show the right way to pack and carry it.
Possible Idea – We have enough boys in the Scouting 101 group we could split them into 2 groups for a camp out. (We have about 20 boys, drawing from Minutemen and several other patrols.) This way, there are more opportunities for each positions which will make hitting the various Second / First Class Requirements. We could change groups periodically.
Do we have enough trained adults to lead them (besides Dale)? I am planning on getting the training in October when it is offered.
Tenderfoot 3 - Assist in preparing and cooking one of the meals. Tell why it is important to share in meal prep and cleanup, and explain the importance of eating together.
2nd Class – 2F - Demonstrate lighting a fire and a lightweight stove. 2G - Plan & Cook over open fire, 1 hot breakfast or lunch for your self, selecting foods from food pyramid. Explain good nutrition. Tell how to transport, store, and prepare the foods selected.
1st Class – 4A, Plan a patrol menu that includes at least 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner and requires cooking at least two of the meals. Tell how it includes foods from the food pyramid. 4B Make a list showing the cost and food amounts to feed 3 or more boys and secure the ingredients 4C List which pans, utensils, and other gear needed to cook these meals. (Grubmaster) 4D Explain safe handling. Tell how to dispose of garbage. 4E On a campout, Serve as Patrol Cook. Supervise assistants in using a stove or building a cook fire. (Supervise = Delegate / monitor, not Do) Prepare Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner as planned in 4A. Lead patrol in saying Grace.
Tenting Roster - Who will be tenting with whom?
Scouts Own - This could be lead by an Assistant Chaplin with guidance from Skip. (Note – Another position that can be filled. If by a 1st class scout, this could count as time towards Star.)
See y’all this evening at the swimming test.
